New 2021 Chevrolet Colorado for Sale in Sudbury, ON

These smaller midsize pickup trucks have been getting more and more attention and attracting increasing interest from consumers for a few years now, and Chevy isn’t going to let this renewed interest pass it by. The Colorado was already a big-seller here in North America, but Chevrolet has given the popular midsize pickup truck a notable refresh for the 2021 model year.

The 2021 Chevrolet Colorado retains all the versatility, flexibility and capability that buyers love, but it’s now being offered with a more rugged and aggressive look that more than meets the challenge set recently by some of Chevy’s biggest rivals.

Looks to match the capability

In truth, Chevrolet hasn’t completely redesigned the exterior styling of the Colorado midsize pickup truck for the 2021 model year, but in some guises, it can look quite different from last year’s model. The beauty of the refresh the truck has got this year is it can now look as rough, tough, rugged and macho as you want it to be, but if that’s not a style you care for it can also look as modern, subtle and sober as you like too.

Every version of the 2021 Colorado gets new front and rear fascia designs, with a more contemporary front fascia and a rear one that features a tailgate with “Chevrolet” written large across it in a way that’s not exactly unfamiliar to pickup trucks these days.

The version you’ll see a lot of in the advertising for the refreshed Colorado is a range-topping ZR2 with the Bison package that makes a return this year. This model doesn’t hold back in displaying its hardcore off-road sport truck credentials, and it’s a look that sure to gain a lot of attention and probably a lot of sales too. With its lifted stance, chunky tyres, blacked-out wheels, roll bar and front grille, the Colorado ZR2 Bison is sure to make a big impression in any company.

Power, capability and economy

Buyers can choose any one of three powerplants to go under the hood of their new 2021 Chevrolet Colorado, which start with the standard 2.5-litre four-cylinder that develops 200 horsepower and 191 lb.-ft. of torque, which is more than adequate for a truck of this size and weight. Even though this is the smallest engine in the lineup, it still makes the Colorado capable of towing up to 1,588kg (3,500 pounds) at the same time as delivering estimated fuel economy ratings of 12.2 L/100km in the city and 9.4 L/100km on the highway.

The second option, and possibly most people’s favourite, is a 3.6-litre V-6 that provides the refreshed Colorado with a best-in-class rating of 308 horsepower as well as 275 lb.-ft. of torque and fuel economy ratings not a long way from those of the four-cylinder unit.

Completing the lineup of engines is a Duramax 2.8-litre turbodiesel inline-four, which might only produce 186 horsepower, but its party trick is the massive 369 lb.-ft. of torque it produces. This is the engine to go for if you’re serious about towing with your new Colorado because when correctly configured, the Chevy is then rated to tow up to as much as 3,493kg (7,700 pounds).

Build the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado your way

There might only be four trim levels in the 2021 Colorado lineup, which is a lot less than some of Colorado’s full-size light-duty counterparts offer, but there’s still a lot of diversity in this relatively limited range.

At the entry-level, there’s the relatively sober and workmanlike WT (Work Truck), but even this commercially focused trim level comes with more than a decent amount of standard features and amenities. Next up is the LT trim level, and this is probably where the overwhelming majority of retail buyers will look to start. It doesn’t come with a ridiculous amount of extra standard features and equipment over the WT specification, but there are plenty of useful extra features and there’s much greater scope for raiding the options list.

The Z71 is where things really start to get interesting in terms of standard equipment, but the WT, LT and ZR1 all feature newly updated center bars, lower fascias, and skid plates. The ZR2 is the truck to go for if your budget stretches to it and you like that ultra-aggressive look, but it’s perhaps the top-notch off-road features and capability it offers that will attract a lot of people to the range-topping ZR2.
