If you want and need minivan levels of versatility and practicality for getting the family around Sudbury, Lively, Chelmsford, Azilda, Val Caron, and Hanmer, but you want something a lot more stylish and considerably more desirable, look no further than the 2022 Chevrolet Traverse. The Traverse can seat up to eight people in considerable comfort with space left over for a reasonable amount of cargo, and in the correct specification, it can even look like sensational value for money too.
Unlike in the US, every version of the 2022 Chevrolet Traverse you can buy comes with all-wheel-drive as part of the standard specification, which makes a lot of sense and enhances the value for money credentials of the versatile Chevy, especially at the entry level. The first model in the lineup is the LS, which is an excellent value for money proposition. From there, the lineup goes through LT, RS, True North, premier, and finally to the top-of-the-range High Country that does knock on the door of genuine luxury. The LS comes as an eight-seater, but the majority of models are configured to accommodate seven.
Even though the Traverse is now classed as mid-size, this is still a pretty substantial vehicle that can carry up to eight people and a good helping of cargo, and that inevitably requires a suitable powerplant. That’s not a problem here, as the Traverse comes equipped with a 3.6-litre V-6 under the hood that produces a healthy 310 horsepower and 266 lb.-ft. of torque sent to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission.
This powertrain has plenty of power to cope admirably with a full load of people and cargo, and it can even make the Traverse feel pretty lively when it doesn’t have a full load on board. And if you need to do a bit of towing, you’ll be pleased to hear that the Traverse is rated to tow up to a maximum of 2,268 kg (5,000 pounds).
The Traverse could almost get away with a skinny list of standard equipment because it’s so spacious, versatile and capable, but instead, the Traverse comes very well equipped at lower trim levels and is bursting with features at the top-end. The Traverse LS standard equipment list includes 18-inch alloy wheels, IntelliBeam auto high beams, LED lights, 10 cupholders, a six-speaker audio system, an 8-way power driver seat, keyless open and start, a full complement of power features, a rear vision camera, tire pressure monitors, tri-zone automatic climate control and USB ports in all three rows. Infotainment is taken care of by the Chevrolet 3 System that has a 7.0-inch colour touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
All models also come with Chevrolet Safety Assist, which is a suite of active safety features that includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, Following Distance Indicator, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning and those IntelliBeam auto high beams.
The 2022 Chevrolet Traverse is an extremely practical and versatile mid-size crossover SUV that can be as affordable or as feature-packed as you need it to be, but it never looks or feels cheap in any way, regardless of which model you go for.
