You will see one or two bigger SUVs on the roads and highways in and around Sudbury than the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe, but not many. Even though it isn’t even Chevy’s biggest model, the latest Tahoe can still accommodate up to eight people in considerable comfort with room to spare and tow a trailer of up to 3,810 kg. The truck-based construction of the Tahoe delivers immense capability that crossovers still struggle to match, and the 2023 Tahoe is now at least as stylish as any of the competition.
When you have to carry up to eight people and their stuff around on a regular basis, it’s easy for thoughts to turn to minivans. While vans are an undeniably people-friendly way of getting a lot of people from one place to another, they’re not the most desirable vehicles, and they don’t have the style, presence, or swagger of a big, capable SUV like the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. Even behind the third-row seats, there’s a generous 722 litres of cargo volume. And if you need to haul the occasional large object, up to 3,480 litres of cargo volume is available with the second and third rows folded away.
Three new exterior colours grace the palette of the Tahoe for the 2023 model year, which are Silver Sage Metallic, Sterling Gray Metallic, and Radiant Red Tintcoat. A stylish black grille is also now an option, and it drops the traditional Bowtie logo in favour of capital letters spelling out the brand name instead.
There are five trim levels in the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe lineup, which start with the base LS trim and then go to the LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and top-of-the-range High Country. The LS and LT trim levels are standard rear-wheel drive models, but all-wheel-drive is available for both, and all other trim levels get standard all-wheel-drive.
The standard engine is a 5.3-litre gas V-8 that produces a healthy 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque, which gets sent to the rear or all four wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission used by all trim levels and engines. The second engine is the more powerful 6.2-litre gas V-8, providing the 2023 Tahoe with 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque. The 6.2L is the standard engine with the High Country and is available as an option for the RST, Z71, and Premier trim levels. If towing is essential to you, a 3.0-litre Duramax turbodiesel is also available with 277 horsepower and the same 460 lb.-ft. of torque as the larger of the two gas powerplants. The Duramax turbodiesel is available with every version of the 2023 Tahoe, apart from the Z71.
The LS trim level is what fleets usually go for, even though the standard specification is pretty impressive. However, retail shoppers are sure to start at the LT or higher. The LT builds on the LS spec with a standard 10.2-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 12.0-inch diagonal colour driver information center. It also gets you an impressive Bose 9-speaker audio system, a wireless charging pad, heated front seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and leather seat facings.
You can take it for granted that the High Country has a sensational standard specification, but there are many options for you to tailor it to your taste and requirements. But if you fancy something a little different, check out the off-road focused Z71 that has a two-speed transfer case to deliver genuine four-wheel drive, 20-inch alloy wheels with all-terrain tires, and that all-important underbody protection. Despite its off-road slant, like all Tahoes, the Z71 still has an impressively quiet cabin at highway speeds and a very comfortable ride.
You can configure a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe to handle almost any job, perhaps other than fitting into the tightest parking spaces. Anyone who needs seating for up to eight, massive cargo space, or multiple combinations of the two, should drop in for a Tahoe test drive from Southside Chevrolet Buick GMC, 2601 Regent St, Sudbury, ON, or call us at (705) 523-2438 for more details and to book an appointment for a time that fits your schedule.
