Many people consider going electric with their next new car, but plenty remain firmly on the fence. If you live in Sudbury and you’re waiting for an electric vehicle to come along that’s stylish and practical but also affordable, the all-new 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV could be just what you’ve been waiting for. The Equinox EV is a fully-electric compact crossover SUV with a familiar name that will challenge you to think seriously about stepping into the brave new world of zero-emissions mobility.
It’s common for new electric vehicles (EVs) only to be offered in one or two high-spec versions when they first come to market, which is why many assume an EV will be too expensive. GM is doing things differently with the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV by making it available in a broad range of models to suit an equally wide range of budgets right from the start.
There are five trim levels to choose from in the Equinox EV lineup. The range starts with the very affordable 1LT, which looks sensational and has an impressive list of standard features. From there, you can move up to the 2LT, 2RS, 3LT, and range-topping 3RS. The high-spec models are sensational and bursting with the latest technology, but the more affordable trim levels are also very well-equipped and offer value for money, that’s hard to find right now with electric vehicles.
Because electric vehicles are still a new direction for many people brought up on internal combustion engines, the first thing most people want to know about any new EV is how practical it will be on a daily basis. Regardless of which of the five trim levels you’re interested in, you can rest assured that practicality won’t be an issue. The most affordable versions have a single motor driving the front wheels, and the range of these on a single full charge of the battery is a GM-estimated 400 kilometers.
The estimated output is 210 horsepower and 242 lb.-ft. of torque, and if you go beyond the entry-level 1LT, a bigger battery is standard that pushes the range to an even more impressive 480 kilometers. Also available is a dual-motor all-wheel-drive format, which increases the output to an estimated 290 horsepower and 346 lb.-ft. of torque. The range of the more powerful models will be approximately 450 kilometers. The Equinox EV can fast charge up to 150 kW, which means you can add 112 kilometers of range to the battery in 10 minutes.
So the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV is stylish, practical, and affordable, but what about the stuff that matters when we’re looking to buy a new car; standard features and equipment? The 1LT comes with 19-inch alloy wheels, 11-inch screens for driver information and infotainment, front and rear automatic emergency braking, active lane control, blind-spot monitors, automatic high beams, a heated steering wheel, and heated front seats. The 2LT gets a larger battery for extra range, a front LED light bar, and it also allows you to upgrade with AWD and some more advanced safety features.
The 3LT and 3RS models both get AWD, heated front and rear seats, ventilated front seats, reverse automatic braking, 21-inch wheels, adaptive cruise control, and a 17.7-inch diagonal touch-screen as part of their standard specifications. Super Cruise also provides driver assistance capability for divided and compatible highways.
