The Traverse has long been a sensational family vehicle with masses of capability and flexibility, but the all-new 2024 Chevrolet Traverse adds more of everything to an already winning formula. The all-new Traverse has more safety, power, versatility, capability, swagger, technology, and style than its predecessors. The previous models were understandably popular vehicles, but this new version of the Traverse takes the nameplate to an entirely new level of desirability.
There are only four trim levels in the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse lineup, but they cover a considerable spectrum of style and specification and appeal to many different shoppers. The lineup starts with the familiar LS trim level that represents excellent value for money with its eight-seat capacity and impressive standard features for an entry model. The next step in the range is the LT, and then we get to what will be the headline act for many with the 2024 Traverse, the Z71. The Z71 is an off-road-focused model that brings a new level of capability to the Traverse and the adventurous style to go with it. But if wilderness trails outside Sudbury’s urban areas hold no interest, the range-topping RS combines a sporty SUV look with a sensational roster of standard features and equipment.
The days of naturally aspirated V-6 engines powering midsize SUVs are coming to an end as more efficient small-displacement turbo engines gradually replace them. That’s the route Chevy has gone down with the all-new 2024 Traverse, and all four trim levels get the same powertrain. That powertrain is a new 2.5-litre turbo-four that develops a GM-estimated 315 horsepower and 317 lb.-ft. of torque, which comes mated to an eight-automatic transmission. The power goes to all four wheels as AWD is standard, but the Z71 goes further with an off-road-capable twin-clutch AWD system as part of its standard equipment. Although the new engine’s fuel economy will likely be better than its V-6 predecessor, it also develops five horsepower and 49 lb.-ft. of torque more than the previous model.
The interior of the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse is obviously spacious, as it accommodates up to eight people across three rows of seats. However, it also offers a class-best 2,763 litres of available cargo volume in a cabin packed with high-tech features. All models get the Chevrolet Safety Assist suite of advanced safety tech, which includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Following Distance Indicator, Lane Keep Assist w/ Lane Departure Warning, IntelliBeam High Beam Assist, and Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking. But far more advanced features are available if you want, such as Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Blind Zone Steering Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking, Side Bicyclist Alert, Reverse Automatic Braking, and plenty more.
The cabin’s focal point is the display screens, led by the default infotainment screen measuring 17.7 inches diagonally. This screen is over double the size of the biggest screen in the older model, serving as the primary access point to the Traverse’s digital features. The vehicle also provides options for wireless phone power-up and Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity. Furthermore, it comes equipped with a standard set of six USB ports.
